90210 And Charmed
Beverly Hills, 90210 was a pop culture phenomenon in the 1990s, mixing soapy storylines with such topical issues as date rape, drug abuse, and homophobia. However, the show was even more intense behind the scenes. As star Shannen Doherty became massively popular, she became known for partying hard, showing up late to set, and having a contentious relationship with co-star Jennie Garth (which escalated into a physical altercation at least once). At the end of the fourth season, Doherty was fired. In 1998, she began working on the series Charmed. It was not long before she developed a feud with co-star Alyssa Milano, which led to Doherty’s character being killed off after just three seasons. Years later, Doherty acknowledged her bad behaviour, saying she was young and struggling with fame. She reunited with Garth for several episodes of the 90210 reboot in 2008 and mended her relationship with Milano.
Grey’s Anatomy — Isaiah Washington
In October 2006, reports emerged that Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey had gotten into a heated argument on set. Both actors confirmed that they had lost their tempers but quickly made up. However, this was not the whole story. During the argument, Washington used a homophobic slur in reference to co-star T. R. Knight, who had not publicly come out. When the story made its way to the press, Knight was forced to come out as gay, and many groups called for Washington to be fired. In the pressroom at the Golden Globes after winning Best Drama Series, Washington repeated the slur when denying its use. A few months later, he was fired. Knight left two years later after what he called a "breakdown in communication" with creator Shonda Rhimes. Washington eventually returned to Grey’s for one episode in the tenth season, and Knight worked with Rhimes again on The Catch.
