Between actors, directors, writers, and producers, there can be a lot of varying opinions on a film set. Sometimes, that leads to some pretty explosive blow-ups. Whether it be an actor and director who can’t see eye-to-eye, feuding co-stars fighting for screen time, or poor attitudes causing a ripple effect throughout the set, these are fifteen of the most infamous backstage feuds that seriously compromised some of your favorite films.
Gone Girl – Ben Affleck & David Fincher
Would you believe that this feud, which seriously delayed filming on the thriller Gone Girl, was all over a baseball hat? During a sequence where Ben Affleck’s character was supposed to be incognito in New York City, Fincher gave him a Yankees hat to wear. “I said, ‘David, I love you, I would do anything for you,'” Affleck told the New York Times later. “‘But I will not wear a Yankees hat. I just can’t. I can’t wear it because it’s going to become a thing, David. I will never hear the end of it. I can’t do it.’ And I couldn’t put it on my head.” He wasn’t kidding. It took a whopping four days to reach a negotiation (a Mets hat). Production was totally shut down for those four days while Affleck refused to compromise, leaving filming in limbo.
Fast & The Furious – The Rock & Vin Diesel / Tyrese
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson started this feud when he called out co-star Vin Diesel in an Instagram post, calling him "chicken shit.” He wrote: "There's no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one. My female co-stars are always amazing, and I love 'em. My male co-stars, however, are a different story.” Rumors swirled that a behind-the-scenes conference was held to quell some tension, while co-stars Tyrese and Ludacris seemed to stand behind Diesel. Johnson continued his childish behavior by again taking to Instagram to thank the entire cast – aside from Vin Diesel. Tyrese then got involved heavily, commenting on Instagram that Johnson was ignoring his texts and that he was compromising the franchise by focusing on a spin-off for his own character. Eventually, Tyrese said that he refused to appear in the next Fast film if Johnson does.
