Literacy is something many people take for granted. It is necessary for daily living and makes things like paying bills, reading street signs and finding employment much easier. When John Allan’s girlfriend, Linda, had a stroke and could no longer speak nor read, he helped her relearn. Every day, the couple went to the local coffee shop, where he would test her on basic literacy skills, like the alphabet, with flashcards. The act of love continued with the elderly man’s assistance with Linda’s speech, grooming, and workouts at the gym.
