10. Olympic Support
When New Zealand track and field runner, Nikki Hamblin, took a tumble during the 5,000 m heat at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, the crowd broke out in cheers after what happened next. As she fell, so did American opponent, Abbey D’Agostino, who got up, shook off her twisted knee and helped Hamblin limp across the finish line. The two hugged before D’Agostino was transported to a wheelchair. “I’ve never met this girl before, and isn’t that just so amazing, such an amazing woman,” Hamblin said. That is a sign of true Olympic spirit.
9. Hospital Visit Surprise
When she was only five years old, Micheala Morley had a surprise visit from her fan, Irish rugby player, Brian O’Driscoll. She had been awaiting a kidney for a transplant needed while undergoing hemodialysis at Temple Street Children’s University Hospital. Just like throwing the ball, O’Driscoll followed through a number of times. He returned for visits the following year when Morley received her kidney and brought the winning Heineken Cup. Then he brought Leinster team members for a meet-and-greet with her and other kids at the hospital.
