7 Ways to Outshine Your Mother-in-Law with Holiday Spirit

6) Turn on some Christmas music

Nothing will put the cherry on top of your party preparation quite like the memorable melodies of Christmas playing in the background. If you’ve already put together a royal feast by the time your guests arrive, humming along to some cheerful Christmas music while you carve the ham will really show that mother-in-law of yours that you’ve got it all together!

It’s also quite difficult to sustain a grouchy mood when you zone yourself into some upbeat holiday tunes. It may even change your mother-in-law’s mood, leading you two to become best friends through some meaningful bonding.

Not all Christmas songs will set the mood for a carefree evening as well as others can, though. Be sure to avoid the emotion-inducing likes of “Last Christmas” by Wham!, “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” by Bing Crosby, and “Christmas Shoes” by Bob Carlisle. At the same time, don’t shy away from classic tunes like “Happy Xmas” by John Lennon, “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole, and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” by Judy Garland. Oh, and anything by Michael Buble is sure to put your guests at ease, as well.
