In 2016, Heather Thompson and Grey Cayea spent 103 days driving across the United States, travelling through thirty-nine states and visiting twenty-two national parks. Covering more than 29,500 miles, they broke the world record for the longest road trip in a single country. Their record beats the previous record, which was set earlier in 2017 by a four-man team who drove 22,406 miles through India. Inspired by Tony Robbins' Awake The Giant Within
Cayea and Thompson had already been planning to move from their home in Gilbert, Arizona to Philadelphia. But it was Tony Robbins’s audiobook Awake the Giant Within that prompted Cayea to research world records and aim to break one in the process.
Packing Up, Setting Out
On July 7, 2016, the couple packed up their 2008 Subaru Outback and left their home in Gilbert, Arizona to begin the drive that would take 103 days to complete.
