Dreaming of “the big one” is what motivates fishermen to wake up before the sun rises and getting out on the water, coffee in hand. Catching one of these brings notoriety and recognition in fishing history. Most might never realize this dream, but those who have inspire anglers the world over. There are waterways chock full of opportunities, so these are just some of the most incredible fish ever caught.
Dorado (Mahi-Mahi or Dolphinfish)
This brilliantly colored fish is one of the most sought after fish by anglers. Dorados are fast swimmers and known to leap from the water when hooked, but anglers love their energetic, powerful fights and highly prized meat. The world record catch of a Dorado was made by Manuel Salazar in 1976, when he reeled in an about-87-pound giant from the Papagayo Gulf in Costa Rica. The method used to catch was trolling, which is one or more lines that are either constantly reeled in or kept behind a moving boat.
