The eyes can benefit or suffer from what an individual chooses to consume. An unhealthy diet can increase their risk of many eye conditions and lower the overall strength of their eyes, which can hasten conditions like macular degeneration. Chronic dry eyes have been connected to a lack of omega-3 fatty acids in an individual’s diet, particularly for women. Individuals need between 2 and 3 thousand milligrams of omega-3 fatty acids daily.

The most powerful source of omega-3s is in fatty fish. Unfortunately, the vast majority of individuals do not eat enough fish to get the omega-3s they need. Thus, they need to look at other food sources, including soy, walnuts, eggs, flaxseed, and certain dairy products. Individuals who still fail to consume enough omega-3s will need to take supplements.
